What is Newzworthy?

Newzworthy is a plug-in for the Plex Media Server. Currently, Plex is available for Mac OS X. It supports media playback to your television (by directly connecting your Mac to your TV), viewing through iOS devices (such as the iPhone and iPad), and is coming to more devices all the time (such as hacked AppleTV2Gs, Android, Windows, and lots of other places!).

The Plex Media Server has a robust framework for building media plug-ins and making the content they expose available to all of the places/devices you enjoy Plex. Newzworthy is a Plex Media Server Plug-in.

What does Newzworthy do and why is it special?

Newzworthy does three important things:

  1. From within a Plex client, Newzworthy let’s you browse usenet index sites (such as Newzbin or NZBMatrix) to find video content you are interested in, such as movies and television shows.
  2. Once you find something you want to watch, Newzworthy will begin downloading for you using your usenet news services of choice (a service such as: Astraweb orGiganews).
  3. **This is the most exciting part!** The moment Newzworthy has downloaded enough of the video file (usually the first RAR file in the set), it will allow you to begin streaming the video to your Plex client! No more waiting for the whole 4gb movie to finish downloading and unpacking!

I’m looking forward to checking this out. Is it completely broken right now? How do i point to a new nzb indexer? I have Easynews and am anxious to put this plugin to work. 🙂

You can use nzbindex (choose from Preferences). That’s all that works right now. Unfortunately NZB index sites seem to be dropping like flies…
